My 3 Words for 2016

My 3 Words for 2016

What will define your 2016?

Each year, I anxiously anticipate Chris Brogan’s “My 3 Words..” blog post. It’s become tradition to read the post, meditate, and set the theme for my own key words of 2016. It also become my annual challenge to live outside of my comfort zone because these three words are to hold me accountable for the next 365 days.

Here’s how it works (taken from ChrisBrogan.com):

Pick any three words that will guide you in the choices you intend to make for 2016. They should be words that let you challenge yourself as to motives and decisions. They should be words that help you guide your actions.  In 2015, my words were Plan, Leverage, and Fabric.

  1. Plan – work the plan. If there’s no plan, make one. See how it’s a noun and a verb?

  2. Leverage – work on whatever will have the MOST impact instead of just finishing up to-do work. Leverage works in a few ways.

  3. Fabric – everything is connected. Pull here, and it will get tight there.

That’s Chris’ three words. And today, as he unveiled his new three words for 2016 (here), I accepted the challenge and chose mine. They are:

  1. Aggressive – be on the offensive. I’ve spent years past waiting for certain things to happen or specific actions to “come to me” instead of aggressively going after them. My focus for this year is to crank things up a notch & be in all-out attack mode in business & health.
  2. Harmony – work-life-relationships flow together. There’s no such thing as “balance” for individuals building businesses. There is however, a way to create a harmony where the work-life-relationships can work together, even if not balanced. I’m constantly striving to create a flow that works.
  3. Adventure – constantly seek things outside my comfort zone. Adventures aren’t found in safe havens. My goal for 2016 is to continue my growth by constantly forcing myself outside of what feels “safe.”

“Always remember, it’s simply not an adventure worth telling if there aren’t any dragons.” Sarah Ban Breathnach
